This is a felt mini top hat that I have covered with green taffeta. Materials:

At first I wanted to also to use the lace, but in the end I decided not to.

Ivar also really liked the hat:

First I cut out an oval just a bit wider than the brim of the hat and attached this to hat with pins:

Handstitch with tiny stitches to the fabric. Finished result:

Then cut fabric close to stitching:

On the inside cut a "star" to fold the fabric in:

Again handstitch to hat abd cut fabric close to stitches:

Then I have cut out another oval slightly larger than the hat, but this time cut out an oval in the middle so it fits over the hat. Pull tight and attach pins. Then handstitch close to edge.

Again cut fabric close to stitches. Finished upside of brim:

Cut out a shape to cover the top of the hat. Pull tight and hold in place with pins:

After stitching :

Cut out a piece of fabric to cover the side of the hat:

I only stitched the back where the fabric meets. Because it is pulled tight it will stay in place and this way not too many stitches are showing.

Decorating the hat. I glued and stitched lace to the side of the hat:

Then I glued trim to the brim and the top of the hat. The pins hold the trim in place while drying:

Finished hat:

I covered another top hat. This one is a bit bigger than the green one. This time I have used black-red blossom brocade. I haven't made pictures of the complete progress, but I have used the same method as above. Here are some progress pictures:

Here are some pictures of me wearing the finished hat:
