On my next corset I want to try something different. I saw a picture of a corset someone made (I don't know who and I don't have a picture unfortunately) and I thought it was totally cool. It had a picture of a skull on it and I want to try something similar. So I have bought transfer paper to transfer a photo on fabric. This photo I am going to use on the corset. The front of the corset will be black velvet and the sides black cross brocade.

Fabric:

This is a photo I took in Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris a few years ago. I converted it to sepia in photoshop. This will be the front panel of the corset.

Patterns used:

As always I am making the upper right corset.

Fabric cutting:

Corsetparts sewn together. I decided not to use a front busk, because I didn't want to cut the photo in two. I still have to make it fit, because now the corset is way too big for me. Unfortunately that means that the crosses on the brocade are less visible. But better that than a corset that doesn't fit right.

And this is what is looks like with the photo (pictures highlighted). This is just a try-out with a low-quality print in black and white. I haven't tried the transfer paper yet.

I think the little crosses just gives it an extra finishing touch.

Nothing exciting done yesterday, just made the corset fit. Today is the fun part. For the first time I am going to try out the transfer paper. After I printed it on the special paper, you have to iron it on the fabric:

And this is what it looks like after pressing:

I can hardly wait to attach it to the corset, but first I have to sew the trims on and the boning tape.

Corset without any trims:

Velvet trim on bottom (picture highlighted):

Satin trim on top:

Then I made a ruche of satin ribbon to go on the top of the corset:

And after much hand sewing, here's the satin ruche finished:

Finally it was time to handsew the photo on the corset:

For the trims around the photo I have first sewn a small organza ruched trim to a satin ribbon. This ribbon I pleated and sewn on the corset. After that I finished the edge with another small trim. This is a very highlighted photo, I hope you can see the detail:

Today I have put in the steel bones, finished the handsewing and sewn on the little crosses. And this is the finished corset, front and back:

Of course I had to try it on. It's difficult to see on the pictures, but nevertheless, here they are:

The photo is a bit wrinkled. I hope I can fix that, but overall I am really satisfied with the end result. On to the next photo-transfer project :-)!
